Synergy can Disposal of Primus Gas Canister Recycling

Can You Recycle Gas Canisters?

At Synergy we can disposal of all Primus. We recognise the importance of recycling gas canisters, which are composed of valuable recyclable metals. These canisters can be recycled , there are a lot of risks associated with their high-pressure contents.

Guidelines for Recycling Gas Canisters

Empty Canisters: Once a gas canister is empty, it should be treated like any other recyclable metal. Place it in your recycling bin along with other metals, ensuring any plastic components are removed and recycled separately.

Non-Empty Canisters: Canisters that still contain gas are hazardous. Do not attempt to pierce, crush, or expose them to heat. These canisters must be handled with care to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of everyone involved, including waste management personnel.

Why Not Crush Gas Canisters?

Crushing or piercing gas canisters can be dangerous, especially if they are not completely empty. Even if you believe the canister is empty, we recommend disposing of it whole to prevent any risks.

Handling Partially Empty Canisters

Safety Precautions: A partially empty gas canister still poses risks due to its pressurised contents. If unsure about the canister’s status, treat it as a safety hazard:

  • Do not crush or heat the canister.

  • Avoid placing it in mixed recycling bins where it could be concealed under other items.

Disposal of Hazardous Gas Canisters: Part-filled or full gas canisters should be disposed of through specialised hazardous waste services to ensure they are handled safely.
